Mipam: His Life and Teachings
Douglas Duckworth presents his new book on Mipham:
Dear Colleagues:
I would like to announce my new book, Jamgön Mipam: His Life and Teachings, which is an introduction to Buddhist thought and practice in Tibet through the window of Mipam ('ju mi pham rgya mtsho, 1846-1912). This book was written with undergraduates in mind and is organized into three main sections: The first section provides some general background to Mipam’s life and works (including an overview of Buddhist thought in India and the distinctive character of Buddhism in Tibet); the second presents an overview of some of the main themes in Mipam’s writings (including his unique integration of sūtra and tantra, Yogācāra and Prāsaṅgika, and emptiness and Buddha-nature); and the last section offers primary source translations excerpted from his Buddhist writings. This book contains some new information on Mipam while offering an accessible introduction to the intricate world of Buddhist Tibet. It was written with the aim that it could be used in courses such as "Tibetan Buddhism" and "Buddhist Philosophy."
